79 – ‘Mass Effect’ Diaries Part 3

No Comments The Electric Hydra

Whew. We just made it past the first disc of “Mass Effect 2″ and boy are our legs tired. This week, we dig into the characters of “Mass Effect 2″ and discuss the game’s events leading beyond the Horizon mission. Other topics we cover include the game’s rather disposable downloadable content, how our relationships with Kaiden or Ashley are affecting us, and other minor nuts and bolts. I think our rant about the game’s combat, actually, ends up being our biggest segment.

If you’re new to this, why not join in now? “Mass Effect 2″ is a crazy better game than “Mass Effect.” Don’t forget to check us out on the forums, too. Lots of cool discussion going on in there. Until this Sunday!

Awesome! We made it to our second episode of our first Let’s Play-ish Meets Book Club series! I’m patting us on the back because this episode was a challenge. We had to, essentially, pummel through 15 hours of content within a three-day span while maintaining full-time jobs and ensuring that our bosses don’t hate us in the mornings. We did it. We rock.

This episode, by the way, is all about the end of the original “Mass Effect.” We dig in hard on the series’ themes, what the ending is supposed to tell us, and maybe even what it forgot to seal up. We also dive into some user questions and discuss some crazy, fairly wide-reaching topics. Join us!

77 – ‘Mass Effect’ Diaries Part 1

No Comments The Electric Hydra

What’s up? In case you missed it, this podcast is the first in an expansive series of pods similar to what we did with our GRRM Book Club — except with “Mass Effect.” We plan to bring you a new podcast every week covering the events of all three games, and we’ll be spoiling everything as we go.

As we’ve covered before, this particular pod covers the events of the first game through the first mission, Novaria. Naturally, we get pretty macro with this — you’ll hear our thoughts on the game’s characters, some overarching plot stuff, as well as combat.

This is a huge project, and because of time, we had to leave some stuff out. If there’s anything else you’d like to talk about, feel free to hit up our forums. We’re around.

As a note, here, you’ve got until Wednesday-ish to finish the game. Because of GDC, we have to go nuts to be able to get this done. This will be the only two-podcast week if that makes you feel any better, though.

Thanks for participating. Hope you’re having a blast like we are. (Also, sorry for forgetting your name Luc Vargas!)

PSA: ‘Mass Effect’ Game Club Announcement

No Comments The Electric Hydra

Have we ever issued an oral PSA before? I’m not so sure. Either way, this week’s podcast is a special one: in celebration of the release of “Mass Effect 3,” Joseph and Brad are embarking on another fantastical, comprehensive Book Club — minus the book part.

Starting next week, the dynamic duo will be playing through the entire sci-fi RPG series and discussing massive chunks of it in each TEH release. The first week will feature the events of “Mass Effect” up and through the Novaria mission.

My memory is fuzzy, but I’m pretty sure that the game branches out into three distinct main mission questions that you can take in any order. Pick Novaria first. We’ll cover the rest of the game in next-next week’s release.

If you’d like to chime in or ask a question or two, we have an official thread. Please note that verification in our forums are turned off. To join up, register and then shoot us (@electrichydra) a tweet stating your username. We’ll verify you ASAP.

This is probably going to be pretty fun, guys! WOO.

76 – Aaron Saves

No Comments The Electric Hydra

No time for a lengthy explanation of this week’s episode. Heck, we can’t even remember what we talked about. The only thing that sticks out is the fact that Aaron Linde swooped in like an angel and kept Brad from ruining your favorite show with his tired, semi-coherent mumbling. Thanks, Aaron!

75 – Football Talk (Part 2)

No Comments The Electric Hydra

This week on The Electric Hydra Internet Radio Show, Joseph joins Brad in a delightful pre-Super Bowl discussion. The dynamic duo then address what their respective teams, The Colts and The Titans, need to do next year. Naturally, if you don’t care about NFL football or have anything more than a passing interest in such things, you definitely shouldn’t listen to this. Also, if you’re a fan of high audio quality, this definitely isn’t a pod you should put in your ears. We had an unfortunate microphone issue.

Whew. That’s a lot of caveats. Anyway! Feel free to listen to the podcast below if none of the above has made you flinch.

074 – Metal Gear!? Zelda Timelines!?

2 Comments The Electric Hydra

This week we discuss, in extravagant detail, where we’re recording from. Also, we enjoy several long pauses. When we’re not doing that stuff, though, we’re diving into exciting subjects like Metal Gear as a series, the failings of Metal Gear Solid 3, and even the Zelda Timeline. Anthony and Aaron also give their overall impressions of their “SW: TOR” experience thus far.

Give us a listen just below, or hey, subscribe to us on iTunes. Thanks for being patient, guys. I realize there was a long-ish break and all. You’re the best!

073 – ‘SW:TOR,’ the VGAs, and GOTY

No Comments The Electric Hydra

This week we discuss BioWare and Lucasart’s surprisingly good MMO “Stars Wars: The Old Republic,” the Spike Video Game Awards, and later our Game of the Year selections. Of course, we also devote a sizable amount of time on other things like Jim’s eyesight, my new juicer, and football. The top of the podcast is just Joseph and I — which is why the football talk started happening — but Jim joins us pretty quickly.

We’re all pretty sure that this will be our last podcast of 2011 — Christmas and New Years hit on the nights we normally record. As such, we kinda geared this podcast to close out the year. In the event we get together before the year ends, we’ll certainly upload a podcast. Anyway, listen to this week’s bit of audio below!

072 – ‘WWE 12′ And Other Games

No Comments The Electric Hydra

On this week’s show, we discuss value propositions with a brilliant handjob metaphor, THQ and Yukes’s “WWE 12,” Nintendo’s “Mario Kart 7,” and “Infinity Blade 2.” At the back-end, we also answer a couple of your user questions. Thanks for sending those in, by the way.

If you’d like to listen, go ahead and do so via iTunes or the hand-dandy link just below. Sorry that this specific podcast came so late. Brad’s been working like a horse underneath a large man lately, so it the editing process took a little longer than normal.

071 – ‘Zelda,’ ‘Skyrim,’ And More Oh My!

2 Comments The Electric Hydra

On this week’s episode of The Electric Hydra Internet Radio Show, myself and my dudes discuss the new “Zelda.” We also dig into “Saints Row 3,” touch on “Skyrim,” and Joseph drops some mad “Gears of War 3″ criticism. Later, we dig into your user questions and, as always, forget to talk about video games for ridiculously long stretches.

You can listen below via this handy-dandy link or subscribe to us on the iTunes. Choices! You have them! Oh! And Happy Thanksgiving, ya’ll. Hope you’re having a good time and didn’t overeat because overeating is a SIN.
