86 – Game Club: ‘Max Payne’

No Comments The Electric Hydra

Wow! So, it’s been awhile. But, hey, here’s the first episode in our Max Payne Game Club Thing That We Agreed To Do A Billion Years Ago series. As you’ll notice, it’s just me and Joseph. There’s a few reasons for that, and we dive into those at the top of the new podcast. The short version is that all our personal lives are changing or our days are getting busier. We do the best we can to give you what we can, so hopefully this feels like enough. If not, sorry bros.

Anyway, if you’d like to listen hit that link below. Joseph and I are actually thinking about doing “Max Payne 3″ before “Max Payne 2,” so be on the look-out for future but out of order episodes in the future. Also, we’re going to do a regular show ASAP.

85 – Not ‘Max Payne’-Cast

2 Comments The Electric Hydra

This week’s episode of The Electric Hydra was a rushed, impromptu recording of the show. We do still intend to do our “Max Payne” casts, but I thought it’d be cool if we did a little something for all of you in the meanwhile since it’s been so long. Topics of discussion for this week’s episode include “Fez,” “Fat Sherlock Holmes,” and “Grand Theft Auto 3.” This is by far one of our “funnier” ‘casts despite its length, so enjoy!

84 – ‘Mass Effect’ Diaries Part 6

No Comments The Electric Hydra

On this week’s The Electric Hydra Internet Radio Show, special guests Anthony and Aaron help Joseph and I break down the end of “Mass Effect 3.” Topics include what we think of the ending’s contrivance, its surprise character, and other various nuts and bolts. We also dive into a light character discussion and do comment on some of the moaning on the Internet about how BioWare wrapped up its amazing sci-fi RPG series.

This is our last “Mass Effect” diary thing and we really appreciate all of you who joined us. This was one of the funnest things we’ve ever done for Internet radio, and I think it was totally worth all the time and effort. Here’s to another “Game Club” in the potential future. Enjoy!

83 – On Winged Warriors And ‘Mass Effect 3′

No Comments The Electric Hydra

On this week’s episode of the Electric Hydra Internet Radio Show, Aaron gives us a great idea about what to expect from the new “Kid Icarus” game on the 3DS. Later, we dive into a spoiler-y discussion on some characters in “Mass Effect 3.” At the top of the podcast, I’ve put in a pre-show edit to give you a heads up on what to avoid if you’re sensitive to any “ME3″ talk.

I actually can’t remember if we talked about anything else, and that sounds like a bad thing… but, hey, we’re kind of known for our free-flowing “whatever” discussion about zany stuff. Hop in, buckle up, and enjoy!

On this week’s episode, we have a proper The Electric Internet Radio Show, uh, show. At the top, we have a discussion about my weight and muscles, as well as GDC 2012. Later on the show, we talk about the new iPad, some new games that look fantastic on Apple’s latest tablet, and we touch on the PS Vita and Anthony’s problems with “Chrono Trigger.”

It’s been awhile, so we hope you guys enjoy. Next week we’ll be finishing up our “Mass Effect 3″ series, so beat the game already!

81 – ‘Mass Effect’ Diaries Part 5

No Comments The Electric Hydra

After a short break, Joseph and I finally get to talking about “Mass Effect 3.” This episode deals specifically with the events of the game up to, but not including, Sur Kesh. Topics are pretty wide-reaching considering. At the top, we discuss why we don’t like “Mass Effect 3,” how the this game compares to its predecessor, and our hopes and dreams for BioWare moving forward. Additionally, we dig into this game’s new characters, its new presentation and story-telling style, and of course, what’s happened so far. This episode was a pleasure to do, so we hope you like it.

A minor PSA, but it’s going to be a little bit before we close out the diaries. There’s a lot of game left to play, and I’d rather we all enjoy the title without rushing. I’ll give you all a heads up on Twitter before we’re ready to go, but it seems like we’ll at least give each other a few weeks to enjoy all of “Mass Effect 3′s” content.

And just like that, we powered through to the end of “Mass Effect 2,” or as BioWare dubs it, the dark middle chapter of the “Mass Effect” trilogy. This specific pod takes all sorts of weird turns. Joseph and I start with the Liara DLC and a larger discussion on DLC in general before getting into specifics on the loyalty missions we loved the most and our insane adventures within the actual Collector’s Base. Spoiler: I lost a dude.

Feel free to join us. It’s never too late. And look out for our “Mass Effect 3″ coverage in the future. We’ll figure out a cute way to model a Let’s Play around it, I’m sure.

Whew. We just made it past the first disc of “Mass Effect 2″ and boy are our legs tired. This week, we dig into the characters of “Mass Effect 2″ and discuss the game’s events leading beyond the Horizon mission. Other topics we cover include the game’s rather disposable downloadable content, how our relationships with Kaiden or Ashley are affecting us, and other minor nuts and bolts. I think our rant about the game’s combat, actually, ends up being our biggest segment.

If you’re new to this, why not join in now? “Mass Effect 2″ is a crazy better game than “Mass Effect.” Don’t forget to check us out on the forums, too. Lots of cool discussion going on in there. Until this Sunday!

Awesome! We made it to our second episode of our first Let’s Play-ish Meets Book Club series! I’m patting us on the back because this episode was a challenge. We had to, essentially, pummel through 15 hours of content within a three-day span while maintaining full-time jobs and ensuring that our bosses don’t hate us in the mornings. We did it. We rock.

This episode, by the way, is all about the end of the original “Mass Effect.” We dig in hard on the series’ themes, what the ending is supposed to tell us, and maybe even what it forgot to seal up. We also dive into some user questions and discuss some crazy, fairly wide-reaching topics. Join us!

What’s up? In case you missed it, this podcast is the first in an expansive series of pods similar to what we did with our GRRM Book Club — except with “Mass Effect.” We plan to bring you a new podcast every week covering the events of all three games, and we’ll be spoiling everything as we go.

As we’ve covered before, this particular pod covers the events of the first game through the first mission, Novaria. Naturally, we get pretty macro with this — you’ll hear our thoughts on the game’s characters, some overarching plot stuff, as well as combat.

This is a huge project, and because of time, we had to leave some stuff out. If there’s anything else you’d like to talk about, feel free to hit up our forums. We’re around.

As a note, here, you’ve got until Wednesday-ish to finish the game. Because of GDC, we have to go nuts to be able to get this done. This will be the only two-podcast week if that makes you feel any better, though.

Thanks for participating. Hope you’re having a blast like we are. (Also, sorry for forgetting your name Luc Vargas!)
